Kinesio® Tex Tape is an elastic adhesive therapeutic tape invented by Dr. Kenso Kase in the 1970's. When applied by a trained clinician, Kinesio® Tex Tape can be used to support muscles, joints, ligaments, and tendons and reduce pain and edema. Differing from traditional, rigid athletic tape, it is lightweight and flexible. When applied to the body, Kinesio® Tex Tape lifts the skin, creating increased space in the body's tissues; this space allows the body to heal naturally and return to a normal functioning state.
Kinesio® Tex Tape can be used to treat a variety of conditions across the lifespan. From pediatrics to geriatrics to athletes and anyone in between, Kinesio® Tex Tape is likely an appropriate treatment option. Conditions include: muscle strains, joint sprains, tendonitis, bursitis, edema, acute and chronic pain, headaches, whiplash, posture, and more. Ultimately, treatment comes down to accurate and appropriate assessment of the individual.
